Radiohead Film New Music Video 'Without Cameras'

July 14, 2008
Radiohead Film New Music Video 'Without Cameras'The music video for Radiohead's next single 'House of Cards' has been shot without the use of cameras.

Instead, the video, which was directed by James Frost, was created utilising two types of 3D capture technology.

The first, Geometric Informatics, employs structured light to capture detailed 3D images at close proximity, and was used for the performances of Radiohead's Thom Yorke, the female lead and several partygoers.

Meanwhile, a second system, Velodyne Lidar, was used to capture the larger environment in 3D, which included exterior scenes and wide party shots.

The video for 'House of Cards' is due to premiere next week and continues Radiohead's mission to challenge traditional music formats following the release of their latest album 'In Rainbows'.

Speaking about the video, frontman Thom Yorke said he was intrigued by the idea of using technology in a way that it wasn't meant to be used.

“I liked the idea of making a video of human beings and real life and time without using any cameras, just lasers, so there are just mathematical points--and how strangely emotional it ended up being."
