Michael Jackson This Is It Movie Receives Mixed Reviews

October 28, 2009
Michael Jackson This Is It Movie Receives Mixed ReviewsThis Is It, the documentary of Michael Jackson's final days, has received mixed reviews from critics.

The movie went on general release on Wednesday (October 28) after being premiered simultaneously in 19 cities across the world.

Critics have been left divided by the film, which is comprised of footage of Jackson rehearsing for his ill-fated comeback shows in London.

The Telegraph said the film was “some recompense” for fans who missed out on the opportunity to watch Jackson live, but concluded: “Non-believers will find little of interest”.

The Guardian said This Is It “could have been a lot worse” and was “a testament of a kind, and one that is no disgrace to his (Jackson's) memory”.

Meanwhile, David Gritten, writing in The Telegraph, noted how Jackson changed during the film.

“At times, when he performs Billie Jean and Man in the Mirror, his authority and remarkable stage presence carry the day,” he wrote.

“Yet in other moments he seems petulant, tentative and even frail.”

But This Is It has won praise in the US, where LA Weekly's critic said fans would “gasp with wonder” and “ache with loss”.

The global premieres for This Is It yesterday attracted star-studded guestlists.

The movie is now on general release for a limited two week period.
