Sir Paul McCartney Wows With Dave Grohl In Liverpool

June 2, 2008
Sir Paul McCartney Wows With Dave Grohl In LiverpoolSir Paul McCartney described Liverpool as the “centre of the universe” last night as he headlined a concert to mark the city’s year as European Capital of Culture.

The former Beatle performed to 36,000 people at Anfield Stadium – home to Liverpool football club.

Performing a 26-song set, which featured tracks from each era of his career, Sir Paul opened with a cover of ‘Hippy Hippy Shake’.

The highlight of his performance, however, came when he was joined by Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl.

The former Nirvana Drummer joined McCartney on The Wings track ‘Band On The Run’ and later he switched to drums for 'Back In The USSR' and 'I Saw Her Standing There'.

Sir Paul’s performance was watched by a host of stars, including the widow of John Lennon, Yoko Ono, and Manchester United footballer, Wayne Rooney.

The Zutons and Kaiser Chiefs – who played for an hour and a half – warmed up for the former Beatle.
