The Pogues' 'The Irish Rover' Voted Greatest St Patrick's Day SongThe Pogues' seminal track 'The Irish Rover' has been voted the world's best St Patrick's Day tune by Spotify listeners.

The 1987 cover of traditional Irish folk song, featuring The Dubliners, fought off competition that included The Undertones' 'Teenage Kicks', The Commitments cast's version of' 'Mustang Sally', Ash's 'Girl From Mars' and Thin Lizzy's 'Whiskey In The Jar'.

Also amongst the 24 nominees were The Waterboys' 'Whole Of The Moon', 'Brown Eyed Boy' by Van Morrison, U2's 'I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For' and 'Danny Boy' by Johnny Cash.

The competition ahead of St Patrick's Day tomorrow was held by Discover Ireland in conjunction with listeners of Spotify.

Those who voted were entered into a competition draw to win a two night trip to Dublin and stay at the U2 owned Clarence Hotel.
