Chris Brown Says Sorry On Video For Assaulting Rihanna

July 21, 2009
Chris Brown Says Sorry On Video For Assaulting RihannaChris Brown has offered an unreserved public apology for assaulting his former girlfriend Rihanna.

In an video message posted on YouTube, the 20-year-old singer said he was “very sad” and “very ashamed” of his "inexcusable" actions.

Brown, who pleaded guilty to assault following the incident in February, also called for the forgiveness of his fans.

"I wish I had the chance to live those few moments again,” he said in what appeared to be a scripted message.

Brown and his then girlfriend became involved in an altercation in a Los Angeles suburb shortly before the Grammy Awards.

According to police reports, the singer hit and attempted to choke the 21-year-old during a row that escalated outside a parked car.

In his video apology, Brown said he had seen domestic violence first hand as a youngster, so therefore had seen “what uncontrolled rage can do”.

He also said he was seeking ongoing help to ensure “what occurred in February can never happen again”.

Last month, a Los Angeles judge sentenced Brown to five years' probation and ordered him to undertake six months of community service.

He must also attend domestic violences courses and stay at least 50 yards from the singer. The distance will be reduced to 10 yards at music events, such as awards ceremonies.
