Paul McCartney Plays Beatles Hits At 100 Club Gig

December 17, 2010
Paul McCartney Plays Beatles Hits At 100 Club GigSir Paul McCartney has played his smallest gig in more than ten years at London’s 100 Club.

The former Beatle performed a career-spanning set for just 300 people at lunchtime today (December 17).

The gig marked a warm-up for Sir Paul’s upcoming Christmas gigs and also saw him pledge support to the venue, which has been threatened by closure.

Sir Paul began the set with an a capella version of ‘Hey Jude’, after which he asked the crowd: “Who wants to save the 100 Club?"

Other hits included ‘Matchbox’, ‘Jet’, ‘Drive My Car’ and The Beatles’ ‘Magical Mystery Tour’, reports the Press Association.

The last time Sir Paul performed in such an intimate venue was at Liverpool’s Cavern Club in 1999.

He is due to return to his home city this weekend to play at the Academy on December 20. Prior to that he will play London's Hammersmith Apollo tomorrow (December 18).
