Jimi Hendrix Home Recording Set To Raise $150,000 At Auction

March 31, 2009
Jimi Hendrix Home Recording Set To Raise $150,000 At AuctionA home demo tape by Jimi Hendrix, which includes tracks that eventually appeared on his 1968 LP 'Electric Ladyland', is to be auctioned online.

The 14-song home recording is expected to raise upwards of $142,000 (£100,000) when it goes under the hammer on April 28th.

Owener Mark Sutherland told the BBC that he believed Hendrix recorded the demos in New York in 1968 before bringing them to London.

"I don't know how the tapes got from New York to London, but they must have been important if he took them with him," Sutherland said.

Once in London, Hendrix gave the recordings to neighbour Carl Niekirk.

Until now, the tape has been the subject of a legal dispute with the legendary guitarist's estate, who have tried to claim ownership of the recording.

Hendrix was found dead in London in September 1970. The guitarist’s death has never fully been explained.
