Lil' Wayne Settles Rolling Stones Copyright Infringement Lawsuit

February 2, 2009
Lil' Wayne Settles Rolling Stones Copyright Infringement LawsuitUS rapper Lil’ Wayne has settled a copyright infringement lawsuit with The Rolling Stones’ publishing company, Abcko.

The undisclosed settlement related to alleged similarities between the rapper’s recent hit ‘Playing With Fire’ and the band’s 1965 song ‘Play With Fire’.

In a lawsuit last July, Abcko highlighted an apparent likeness between both songs’ choruses.

They also said the public might assume that The Rolling Stones had approved of the “explicit, sexist and offensive language” used in Lil’ Wayne track.

Although Lil’ Wayne originally denied the accusation, he removed the track from digital copies of his recent album, ‘Tha Carter III’. It was replaced with a song called ‘Pussy Monster’.

In a statement, Abcko said the “terms of the settlement are governed by a confidentiality agreement.”

But added that both parties were “satisfied with the amicable settlement”.
