Radiohead, Pink Floyd and Elbow Drummers Launch Global Beat For Peace

January 11, 2010
Radiohead, Pink Floyd and Elbow Drummers Launch Global Beat For PeaceRadiohead's Phil Selway, Stewart Copeland of The Police and Pink Floyd's Nick Mason are amongst the drummers pledging their support to a campaign calling for peace inSudan.

The campaign, Sudan365, is urging world leaders to pull out the stops in the next 365 days to prevent war from returning to the African nation.

Faithless drummer Jamie Catto – who previously worked on the music project '1 Giant Leap' – thought up the idea to create a 'global beat for peace' and has created a music film which sees drummers from 15 nations passing the beat on like a baton.

Phil Selway said of the campaign: "I wanted to be involved in this project because I think music is such a powerful way of bringing people together.

“Of course, I'm biased in thinking that what's underpinning it all is always the beat - always drummers! Hopefully this film will show that together people can make a huge noise and through this film I hope people's focus will be brought back to what is happening in the Sudan over this very important next year."

Also involved are Elbow's Richard Jupp, Jonny Quinn of Snow Patrol, renowned Egyptian drummer Yehia Khalil and Mustapha Tettey Addy from Ghana.

The film can be watched below:
