w/ Sheena Easton

I know it's late, I know you're weary
I know your plans don't include me
Still here we are, both of us lonely
Longing for shelter from all that we see
Why should we worry, no one will care
Look at the stars so far away
We've got tonight
Who needs tomorrow?
We've got tonight
Why don't you stay?

Deep in my soul, I've been so lonely
All of my hopes, fading away
I've longed for love, like everyone else does
I know I'll keep searching, even after today

So that there it is
We've got it all now
And here we are
What do you say?

We've got tonight
Who needs tomorrow?
We've got tonight
Why don't you stay?

I know it's late, I know you're weary
I know your plans don't include me
Still here we are, both of us lonely
Both of us lonely

We've got tonight
Who needs tomorrow?
Let's make it last
Let's find a way
Turn out the light
Come take my hand now
We've got tonight
Why don't you stay?

I stood outside the Lucky Star
Staring at the flashing sign
It read: come on in and watch young
Scarlet's body come alive
Let her dance for you and catch your spell
You'll swear you can believe her
Be careful not to catch the scarlet fever.

So I paid my fare and walked down front
And found an empty chair
As I settled in young scarlet took the ribbons from her hair
The moves her body made while the music played
Were the likes I've never seen
And she became the envy of my dreams.

One by one her teasing movements
Brought the crowd out of their seats
And all at once young scarlet
Danced straight up in front of me
From the moment that her eyes found mine
I've never been the same
Scarlet locked another heart upon her chain.

Now I get scarlet fever every time I see her
But she's a night club teaser
Not paid to notice me
Yes, I get scarlet fever
If she knew how much I need her
She'd place her hand in my hand
And dance away with me.

She looked 25 but I was told
That she was just 16
She had a way of making a man believe
She danced for only him
As she tantalized I fantasized
And felt the sound of my heart beat
And every night I'd dream
She'd fall in love with me.

Then one night while driving in
My eyes begun to tear
'cos the sign outside the Lucky Star said: scarlet isn't here
she'd left that day to find a life
of bigger and better things
and she left behind my chain of broken dreams.

But still get scarlet fever
In my mind I still see her
Out there dancing somewhere
To another fool like me.

I took a boat, I took a plane
Halfway around the world on a train
New York to Orleans, Japan to Tibet
But the farther I go, the closer you get
And I can't get you out of my mind
All these years to forget, all these miles in jet
But the farther I go, the closer you get.

I took some dreams, I can't damp some dust
I damned your name, I cried and I cursed
I run to the ends of the earth to forget
But the farther I go, the closer you get.

I found a friend, I took her home
I took her upstairs, disconnected the phone
We got warmer and warmer
Been blazing hot
But the farther we went, the closer you got
And I can even make love anymore.

All these years to forget...

. . .

No one could ever say that I didn't try
To say what once was mine
Oh girl, you once were my whole life
But I don't think time will ever let love be
The master of our destiny
Oh, if that's the way it must be.

Then there'll be no dreams for me tonight
No more grass schemes to try to make you mine
'Cause no dreams are gonna change the way you feel
Guess I'll just go somewhere, and hide away and heal.

Maybe some day you'll have a second thought
About the love that we just lost
Gotta hope you do
But baby tonight, she'll see and let you go
Get used to being on my own
Oh girl, if you really should, really should.

Then there's no dreams for me tonight
No more grass schemes to try to make you mine
'Cause no dreams are gonna change the way you feel
Guess I'll just go somewhere, and hide away and heal.

I could tell you the meaning
That your heart stopped being in it
It's too late for dreams
No matter how magic they may be
'Cause no dreams...

Bad Enough

[No lyrics]

. . .

Are you sure I haven't loved you somewhere before
In another time, another place, on some distant shore?

You know me so well, better than I know myself.
And you'll love me tonight
Like you've loved me all my life, all my life
And with the touch of your hand
You took me farther than I've never been
You'll love me like, you've loved me all my life.

Love like we made could have taken a lifetime to find
But you found the way to my heart in a moment of time
You know how to care just like you've always been there.
And you'll love me tonight
Like you've loved me all my life, all my life...

. . .

How long 'till I touch you
'Til I hold you, 'till I see you again
'Cause I've been searchin' forever
And forever, on me you can depend.

I've been waitin' for a girl like you
One that I can call my own
Tell me if this dream of mine will come true
Girl, I'd like to know, I'd like to know.

How long
Before you let me know you
Before you let me show you
All I have in my world.

Cause you are my inspiration
Can't you see that I need you
Honey, I wanna start.

Let me show you, girl
How good love can be
With someone who love you so
Tell me what it takes to win your sweet love
Girl, I'd really like to know.

'Cause I've been searchin' forever
And forever, on me you can depend...

. . .

Didn't I make all your dreams come true
Didn't they work the way you wanted it too
Didn't I do what I promised to you
I understand it's just love, love
So don't give upon love, love, love
Don't give upon love.

Losing you is so hard for me
‘cause loving you came so easily
but we see things so differently
I understand it's just love ….

I'll do what I can to carry on
‘cause I've loved you before
I can not love you more
It's just love, love, love ..

. . .

WHAT I LEARNED FROM LOVING YOU
(Russell Smith - James H. Brown)
« © '82 WB Music »

Sometimes I still think of you
Love that's gone by and the things I didn't do
Time heals hearts so they all say
Passing of years slowly pulls the pain away
There's still a little tenderness left in everything I do
It's what I learned from loving you
Well I had too much to learn to hold on to someone like you
And it took losing you to make me see the woman you needed me to be
Times have changed I have changed too
Even my eyes turned a deeper shade of blue
Guess it's all that crying they went through
It's what I learned from lovin' you
Well I had too much to learn...
I don't cry though we're apart
And someday soon someone else will need this heart
And the next time I'm gonna know when a love is true
It's what I learned from loving you
It's what I learned from lovin' you
It's what I learned from lovin' you
It's what I learned from lovin' you

. . .

(Composer: Bruce Fisher and Billy Preston)

You are so beautiful to me
You are so beautiful to me
Can't you see
You're everything that I'd hoped for
You're everything I need
You are so beautiful to me

You are so beautiful to me
You are so beautiful to me
Can't you see
You're everything that I'd hoped for
You're everything that I need
You are so beautiful
You are so beautiful
You are so beautiful to me
