Kanye West, Kelly Clarkson To Appear On American Idol

US rapper Kanye West and Kelly Clarkson will both appear on this week's episode of American Idol this week, it's been announced.

West will perform his latest single 'Heartless' on the popular TV talent contest, while Clarkson – a former winner – will sing her number one 'My Life Would Suck Without You'.

Finalist Anoop Desai said he hoped to be able to “pick” West's brain on the show, adding: “We'll see if he has anything to lend me too.”

Both performers join a growing list of high profile musicians, including Mariah Carey and Prince, who have appeared on the show since it began in 2002.

The current series of American Idol features new judge, singer Kara DioGuardi, who joined the existing panel of Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul.

2007's American Idol was won by David Cook.
