Jón “Jónsi” Þór Birgisson (pronounced [ˈjouːn ˈθouːr ˈpɪrkɪsɔn, ˈjounsɪ]) (born April 23, 1975) is the guitarist and vocalist for the Icelandic post-rock band Sigur Rós. He is known for his use of a cello bow on guitar and his falsetto voice. He is also blind in his right eye and is openly gay. His boyfriend Alex Somers has done much of the graphic design for Sigur Rós. They also perform together as an art collaboration called Jónsi & Alex. They released their self-titled first book in November 2006, which was an embossed hardcover limited to 1000 copies, along with their first album, "Riceboy Sleeps", in July 2009. Jónsi is a raw food vegan.

Sigur Ros star Jonsi has announced details of a new UK tour, due to get under way in Bristol on September 1. The jaunt will also see the singer perform in Glasgow (September 5), Manchester (6) and Birmingham (9). Read more

Sigur Ros singer Jonsi has announced details of a one-off UK show at The Forum in London's Kentish Town. The Icelandic star – full name Jón Þór Birgisson - will play the venue on May 26th in support of his lovely upcoming album 'Go'. Read more

Sigur Ros singer Jonsi Thor Birgisson has unveiled details of his debut solo album. Simply titled 'Go', the album is released through Parlophone Records on March 22 and is being billed as markedly different to the 2009 instrumental record with his boyfriend Alex Somers 'The Riceboy Sleeps'.
