The double-LP entitled, 'Embryonic', is due to be released in the UK this September.

Frontman Wayne Coyne told Sterogum that releasing "a double record offers more room to be strange."

Meanwhile, the band have also announced details of a short UK tour, which gets under way in London on November 10.

Other dates are set to take place in Glasgow and Birmingham.

The Flaming Lips' UK dates are:

• Portsmouth, Guildhall - 13
• Glasgow, O2 Academy - 15
• Manchester ,Academy - 16
• Birmingham, Academy - 17
