October 23, 2008
The Smiths' Johnny Marr To Lecture At Salford UniversityFormer Smiths' guitarist Johnny Marr is to host a workshop next month at Salford University.

The guitarist, for will act as the visiting professor of music, will talk to students about “innovators” and “mavericks” at Maxwell Hall.

John Sweeney, a representative from the university's School of Media, Music and Performance, told the BBC Marr was "a revered guitarist and composer".

He added: "His lecture is a tremendous opportunity for our students and the wider public to benefit from his considerable experience and expertise. It promises to be a really special event."

Marr's lecture, Always from the Outside: Mavericks, Innovators and Building Your Own Ark, will be open to the public as well as students.

Maxwell Hall was the scene of one of the Smiths last ever concerts together in 1986.
