Each night I make the rounds
To every spot in town
A lonely man with lonely time to kill
All I can say is what a way to live

The paths my memories take
Just make my poor heart ache
I think of her I guess I always will
All I can say is what a way to live

I'd rather lay me down tonight
And never wake again
Than to face another day the shape my life is in

The jukebox playing loud
A face among the crowd
So much like hers it makes my heart stand still
All I can say is what a way to live

I'd rather lay me down tonight
And never wake again
Than to face another day the shape my life is in
The jukebox playing loud
A face among the crowd
So much like hers it makes my heart stand still
All I can say is what a way to live
All I can say is what a way to live

You've got to give a little take a little
Sit a spell learn to whittle
Live a little now and then
Unwind take your time leave your cares all behind
And see what's around the bend
This life ain't coming 'round again
So give a little take a little
Live a little now and then

In a hurry late for work
Rush and worry but what's it worth
You might earn a rich man's pay
But it won't buy you one more day

You've got to give a little take a little
Sit a spell learn to whittle
Live a little now and then
Unwind take your time leave your cares all behind
And see what's around the bend
This life ain't coming 'round again
So give a little take a little

Live a little now and then

Busy making your weight in gold
But you can't take it when you go
Don't care how high you build your stack
They don't make a hearse with a luggage rack

You've got to give a little take a little
Sit a spell learn to whittle
Live a little now and then
Unwind take your time leave your cares all behind
And see what's around the bend
This life ain't coming 'round again
So give a little take a little
Live a little now and then

This life ain't coming 'round again
So lean back chew the fat
Take a day just to piddle
Live a little now and then

Thirty years today
She's been upon this earth
And she can't help but wonder what its all been worth
She swears she loves those kids
And she doesn't mind at all
But there ain't much conversation with a three year old

She's trapped inside these walls
A prisnor in this fine surburban home

So she dreams, she dreams
He'll come home from work and carry her away
And he'll see, that she needs
The man she's still in love with when she dreams

And he's proud of his work
And the ladder that he climbed
But from that high rise office he can't hear her cry
Ringin telephones
And decisions to be made
And even when he gets home he's so far away

Then he drifts off to sleep
And she enters her world of make believe

And she dreams, she dreams
He'll come home from work and carry her away
And he'll see, Oh she needs
The man she's still in love with when she dreams

Six short months we went together
Decided it should be forever
Two paychecks are better than one
A diamond ring and it was done
Bought her a house like I said I would
In sub-divided neighborhood
The fuse got short and the nights got long
It was over long gone
Before I knew
Where I was headed to

I'm goin' through the big D
And don't mean Dallas
I can't believe what the judge had to tell us
I got the Jeep she got the palace
I'm goin' through the big D
And don't mean Dallas

Things like this are never final
I'm still payin' on the vinyl
Flooring in the laundry room
It's multi-colored and waterproof
It's a little bit tough to face my friends

The ones that said I jumped in
The river of love a little too soon
That was August
This is June and it's a different tune

I'm goin' through the big D
And don't mean Dallas
I can't believe what the judge had to tell us
I got the Jeep she got the palace
I'm goin' through the big D
And don't mean Dallas

I'm goin' through the big D
And don't mean Dallas
I can't believe what the judge had to tell us
I got the Jeep she got the two bedroom
Mortgage is due
Siding light blue palace
I'm goin' through the big D
And don't mean Dallas
I'm goin' through the big D
And don't mean Dallas

I talked to your sister last night on the telephone
You know she always thought pretty well of me
She said that the wedding went fine and you were up in New York on your
honeymoon
Tonight I'm down, in Tennessee

I got that letter you wrote, it tore me up
But I don't have anyone to blame but me
I had it all for a while but like everything else, I messed it up
Tonight I'm down, in Tennessee

It's blue tonight and getting bluer
But I'm in the state that I deserve to be
Without you I just can't see things ever looking up for me
I'm so down, in Tennessee

I hope you're happy with him, he's a lucky man
I hope he gives you that home and family
I just want to say if by chance you are ever this way, look me up
I'll be down, in Tennessee

It's blue tonight and getting bluer
But I'm in the state that I deserve to be
Without you I just can't see things ever looking up for me
I'm so down, in Tennessee
I'm so down, in Tennessee
I'm gonna be down, in Tennessee

Gotta find somethin' to ease my mindGotta get it off of youYou tear at my heart strings one more timeWith what you're puttin' me throughI'm not much on hangin' aroundWhere I'm not wanted at allI'm not gonna be your love sick clownWaitin' for your beck and call
I'm gonna get a lifeThat's what I'm gonna doSo startin' nowYou can find one tooI'm gonna get a lifeLike I should have doneA long time agoBefore you wrecked this one
This'll be the last time you spin your wheelsLeaving like a maniacYou don't care about the way I feelThere's no need in comin' back

I'm gonna get a lifeThat's what I'm gonna doSo startin' nowYou can find one tooI'm gonna get a lifeLike I should have doneA long time agoBefore you wrecked this one
Yeah, I'm gonna get a lifeBefore the gettin's done
I'm gonna get a lifeThat's what I'm gonna doSo startin' nowYou can find one tooI'm gonna get a lifeLike I should have doneA long time agoBefore you wrecked this one
I'm gonna get a lifeBefore the gettin's done

(Charles Quillen/John Priestley/Jonathan Clift)

At night the wind blows in the rain
Against the window pane
I hear you call my name.
Your voice whispers in my ear
The words are still so dear
It's almost like you're here.

Chorus:
I can almost feel your breathing
I can almost touch your face
You didn't know that you'd be leaving
Memories time cannot erase.

At night with feelings running deep
As I fall asleep
It's almost like you're here.

--- Instrumental ---

In silence as I sit and stare
I see you sitting there
Brushing down your hair.
And even through a blur of tears
The vision is so clear
It's almost like you're here.

Chorus:
I can almost feel your breathing
I can almost touch your face
You didn't know that you'd be leaving
Memories time cannot erase.

At night the wind blows in the rain
Against the window pane
It's almost like you're here.

It's almost like you're here...

Mark Chesnutt & Waylon Jennings
(Waylon Jennings)

Oh, rainy day woman
I never seem to see your for the good times or the sunshine
You have been a friend of mine, rainy day woman.

That woman of mine, she ain't happy
'Til she finds something wrong and someone to blame
If it ain't one thing it's another one on the way.

I woke up this mornin' to the sunshine
It sure as hell looks just like rain
But I know where to go on a cloudy day.

Oh, rainy day woman
I never seem to see your for the good times or the sunshine
You have been a friend of mine, rainy day woman.

--- Instrumental ---

Always the same, never complain
Though times gotta be tough
It's not right for you, what can I do
I can never think of givin' you up.

Oh, rainy day woman
I never seem to see your for the good times or the sunshine
You have been a friend of mine, rainy day woman.

--- Instrumental ---

Oh, rainy day woman
I never seem to see your for the good times or the sunshine
You have been a friend of mine, rainy day woman...

--- Instrumental to fade ---

Door knob in one hand
Suitcase in the other
And I don't love you rollin' off her tongue
Words ripped right through me
Tore a hole in my heart
Could've hurt me a lot less with a gun
She nearly knocked the wall down, slammin' that ol' door
Now the silence is more deadly than the violence of the storm

I've seen a coyote howlin'
Cryin' for his mate
I've made a home with hobos
In the boxcar of a train
I've heard that famous whippoorwill
And felt the north wind blow
But there ain't nothin' quite as lonesome
As this side of the door
This side of the door

Me and ol' Jack Daniels
Been in this chair for days

And we 'bout rocked a hole in this old floor
Got a pocket full of bullets
A hair trigger .38
I'm gonna put some daylight through that door
I will burn this house down, before I go insane
Use that rockin' chair for kindling, watch that door go up in flames

I've seen a coyote howlin'
Cryin' for his mate
I've made a home with hobos
In the boxcar of a train
I've heard that famous whippoorwill
And felt the north wind blow
But there ain't nothin' quite as lonesome
As this side of the door
I've heard that famous whippoorwill
And felt the north wind blow
But there ain't nothin' quite as lonesome
As this side of the door
This side of the door

(david lott/glenn gordon/mark chesnutt)

The day you said goodbye
Without a tear in your eye
I just can not believe
You could take from my life
Half of everything and all of my heart

Loneliness and your name
They are one and the same
And though I've tried and I've tried
I know that you will not remain
Half of everything and all of my heart

I know that I'm just another
Heartbroken lover
With a great big chip upon this lonely shoulder
But if I ever find out that
There's a life out there for me, for me

I know that time will take
Care of a lot of things
That we're scared of
And I know it won't be long until
I get my share of
Half of everything and all of my heart

I know that I'm just another
Heartbroken lover
With a great big chip upon this lonely shoulder
But if I ever find out that
There's a life out there for me, for me

I know that time will take
Care of a lot of things
That we're scared of
And I know it won't be long until
I get my share of
Half of everything and all of my heart
Half of everything and all of my heart
