Lately the kidney has become weak and drier
The dwindling rabbit holes, the dream of the fire
I prick my ears up, I smell the scent
The flames blue and green
I've got my reasons too
I'm telling you all it's something true
And I can't call it my own

We'll stack the pyre, set it on fire, the smoke'll rise higher
Dry grasses burning, the embers are learning, the wind isn't turning
The rain isn't ready yet and I don't think we'll ever let this laburnum tree get wet
And you've got your reasons too
You're caught up in something true

The earth with it's bits of clay and bones of forefathers
Dampens more day by day and the seeds are soon smothered
The forest in disarray embraces new colours
I'm changing season too, yeah
I'm twisting in something true
And I can't call it my own

We'll stack the pyre, set it on fire, the smoke'll rise higher
Dry grasses burning, the embers are learning, the wind isn't turning
The rain isn't ready yet and I don't think we'll ever let this laburnum tree get wet
And you've got your reasons too
You're caught up in something true

And it's here we stand, it feels like home to me
The burnt wood ash scattered oh, so free

I've got my reasons too (I've got my reasons too)
I'm caught up in something true
And I can't call it my own

We'll stack the pyre, set it on fire, the smoke'll rise higher
Dry grasses burning, the embers are learning, the wind isn't turning
The rain isn't ready yet and I don't think we'll ever let this laburnum tree get wet
And you've got your reasons too
You're caught up in something true

I hurt you, didn't I?
I made you cry and cry
I sold my soul again
But I don't want to be
I never really want to be that way
I miss my life I had
I miss those times we laughed
And I'm taking it day by day
But I don't want to feel
I never really want to feel this way

Stepping stones
We've got our eyes upon the horizon now
And if we had known
We would have laid our guns down years ago
And I can still leave smiling
Stepping, stepping, stepping, stepping stones
Don't fall in

Well, I'm closed mind
Even clenched my fist
The rolling opportunities that we've missed
They all say that girl used to be such a sweet little thing
She's such a sweet, shining princess
Laying on a dirty bed
Momma's eyes looking over you
A dignified loss is better than a humiliating defeat, yeah

Stepping stones
We've got our eyes upon the horizon now
And if we had known
We would have laid our guns down years ago
And I can still leave smiling
Stepping, stepping, stepping, stepping stones

They all say that girl used to be such a sweet little thing
She's such a sweet, shining princess

Stepping stones
We've got our eyes upon the horizon now
And if we had known
We would have laid our guns down years ago
And I can still leave smiling
Stepping, stepping, stepping, stepping stones

(Stepping stones
We've got our eyes upon the horizon now
And if we had known
We would have laid our guns down years ago
I can still leave smiling
Stepping, stepping, stepping, stepping stones)

The sky is dry tonight and so am I tonight
You fly like an eagle and you glide like an angel
You fall like a star

I still think you're beautiful
Like a miracle in black and white
But I still understand your reasons for leaving me
'Cause I'm untrustworthy and it's my fault
I miss you

The grass is cold today and this feeling, it is old today
You're cold like a snowflake and you're warm like heartache
And you burn like a sunray

I still think you're beautiful
Like a miracle in black and white
But I still understand your reasons for leaving me
'Cause I'm untrustworthy and it's my fault
I miss you

She drinks the poet right out of his heart and soul
But she's always hurting, yeah, there's glass in her foot again
As she smiles, the truth bends
Or maybe it's all part of the way it was before we started

I still think you're beautiful
Like a miracle in black and white
But I still understand your reasons for leaving me
'Cause I'm untrustworthy and it's my fault
I miss you

I still think you're beautiful
Like a miracle in my life
But I still understand your reasons for leaving me
'Cause I'm untrustworthy and it's my fault
I miss you
I miss you
I miss you
I miss you
I miss you
I miss you

. . .

Jump onto the go-kart, take turns to take part
Drinking cold tea, overly sweet dreams
Koi fish and roses will fall but none of us could ever forget it all
Caught in a gold frame, yeah, yeah

Sit under the archway, fake cough for a sick day
Amethyst on display with Devon cliff clay reflecting the dusty rays
Pickles and fresh vegetables, none of us could ever forget it all
Rush down the blue slide, yeah, yeah

And we can close our eyes and be there in an instant
And we can stop our hearts but the blood flow is so constant
I constantly think of you and the things I should have said to you

The strongest of handshakes quashes past mistakes
The whitest of hair shines whilst you top me up with fine cheap wine
Snooker balls rolling in tunnels, none of us could ever forget it all
Whistling songs for the birds

And we can close our eyes and be there in an instant, yeah
And we can stop our hearts but the blood flow is so constant
I constantly think of you and the things I should have said to you
Mister Goodchild
Mister Goodchild

. . .

I searched for her name in my phone
This loneliness is selfish but I still have hope
She talks in her sleep about me
I lift her away as she clears the stakes
She's sleeping
And the songs we'll sing, those stars I'm in

There's one thing that I must have done for you
Told you that I was sorry
There's one thing that I'd love to say to you
I could have loved you

Secret spinning is her grace
And slowly it will separate and I still have hope
These words cannot define me so rest
I lift her away as she clears the stakes
She's sleeping
And the songs we'll sing, those stars I'm in

There's one thing that I must have done for you
Told you that I was sorry
There's one thing that I'd love to say to you
I could have loved you

It's all my fault
I held on to you
I stepped on your shadow

If this life's all I have
Then what's life without love?
Emptiness, loneliness
I don't believe, believe, believe
I could have loved you

There's one thing that I'd love to say to you
I could have loved you
Tears run dry
And it's over, I'm sober
Lying awake in bed
There's one thing that I must have said to you
I could have loved you

. . .

Let's sink another drink and think about the things we used to believe
Let's sit here sipping beer, static atmosphere is just what we need
Here we go again
We're such foolish men
But it's not the same as back then

Some people wait a lifetime, some simply will accept
Some of us crash-land, some of us eject
Some restore the blood flow, some just let it go blue
Some of us obsess, some move on to something new
She makes me dream of being a strong man
And it's true, of all the people
There's only you I think of when the ship is going down
Is going down
Is going down

Let's get it right this time, too many ugly stories with ugly endings
Let's build some walls around us, a fort for pacifists to share
Here we go again
But it's not the same, my friends
The third jonquil begins
Some people wait a lifetime, some simply will accept
Some of us crash-land, some of us eject
Some restore the blood flow, some just let it go blue
Some of us obsess, some move on to something new
She makes me dream of being a strong man
And it's true, of all the people
There's only you I think of when the ship is going down

And it's true, of all the people
There's only you I think of when the ship is going down
Yes, the ship is going down
Is going down
Is going down
Is going down

. . .

One, two, three, four

Staying hungry, it's the only reason you don't starve
A little lonely, it's the only season they don't laugh
Alarm goes off and still resonates for days and dreams
Sipping bitter and sitting at the sweetest regime

You can't just jot down (You can't just jot down)
Everything inside your head
So why not crucify this serenade instead?
Too many tongues tied (Too many tongues tied)
Words are clogged up all inside
Reasons not to will only become reasons to regret

She is not your caretaker
She is not your heart maker
Your best friends are more than just a shadow away
But even your shadow can go astray

Won't you say, won't you say you'll stay? (Won't you say, say you'll stay?)
Oh, stay one day (Won't you say?)
Won't you say you'll stay at least for today? (Won't you say?)
Won't you say you'll stay?
Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no (Won't you say?)
Won't you say you'll stay?
Will you stay?
Won't you?

Too many songs, they get lost, they get lost in the post
And all you seem to do is get worked up on people just like you
Scribble, scribble, scribble, little changes go such a long way
The smoke sustaining, it's raining little grey pieces every day

She is not your caretaker
She is not your heart maker
Your best friends are more than just a shadow away
But even your shadow can go astray

Won't you say you'll stay? (Won't you say, say you'll stay?)
Yeah, won't you say you'll stay? (Won't you say? won't you say, say you'll stay?)
Stay for today (Won't you say?)
Won't you say you'll stay? (Won't you say, say you'll stay?)
Won't you say you'll stay?
Stay, won't you stay?

. . .

I met this bloke today
He looked at me in a very strange way, I said nothing
I smiled politely, he st-st-stuttered over the words he was trying to say
And he gave me the evil eye, revealed the fangs behind his smile
Oh my, a yellow grin never shone so wicked
I wondered what is his problem?
Is it my stupid hat or my annoying accent?
I know that some people feel that way
But this guy did not even give me chance
I thought nothing of it but then the same thing happened to me the very next weekend
What could it be?

Yeah, I thought it was going well
But all these guys have got their eyes on my girl
Thought it was going swell
The awkwardness of talking to these pricks is hell
I suppose you can never tell
To discover all their dark secrets, well, oh well
I've got news for you, my son
I ain't going anywhere
I ain't going anywhere

I met this prick today, he laughed at me silently
It seems there's quite a lot of these
Bitter people, thick as treacle
Why don't you get it into your thick skull
That the hole in your heart will have to be filled elsewhere
If it's even still worth filling?
I know that you think that you've had it hard
We've all got problems, fickle problems to deal with
There any problems?
Problems always have solutions, easy
Easy come, easy go
Same old songs at a different show is all I know
Or so you think

Yeah, I thought it was going well
But all these guys have got their eyes on my girl
Thought it was going swell
The awkwardness of talking to these pricks is hell
I suppose you can never tell
To discover all their dark secrets, well, oh well
I've got news for you, my son
I ain't going anywhere
I ain't going anywhere
I ain't going anywhere
I ain't going anywhere

Bitter boys, the feeling will dry
Waiting for nothing on their own
Building up meaningless resentment for something they can't understand
My sympathy for your apathy
Crybaby, maybe you will learn
Whiskey won't save you now
Chasing a fairytale, bless your tortured soul
Bless your tortured soul with muddy puddle water

Thought it was going well
But all these guys have got their eyes on my girl
Thought it was going swell
The awkwardness of talking to these pricks is hell
I suppose you can never tell
To discover all their dark secrets, well, oh well
I've got news for you, my son
I ain't going anywhere
I ain't going anywhere
I ain't going anywhere
I ain't going anywhere

I'm sorry, lads
Sorry, lads
I ain't going anywhere

. . .

She wakes up in the morning, I wake up in the afternoon
She gives everything to me, she pushes all it right back down

I need this more than I ever did
To kiss you over, I miss you so much
And how'd we get this far?

I feel a little bit vulnerable now that you said you want me
I feel a little bit weaker now that you said you need me
You need me

A heart full of tumbleweed, you fill it up with warm voices (voices)
I made a promise to you, I lost it in my selfishness

I need this more than I ever did
To kiss you over, I miss you so much
And how'd we get this far?

I feel a little bit vulnerable now that you said you want me
I feel a little bit weaker now

Because I'm living a lie with you and I'm loving every minute of it
A beautiful lie with you, I promise to keep them closed

I'm living a lie with you and I'm loving every minute of it (of it)
A beautiful lie with you and I promise to keep this close to my heart

I walked home, I felt so cold
I felt so scared when I lost my way
I got home, I felt so drunk
I called you up and I told you how I feel

I need this more than I ever did
To kiss you over, I miss you so much
And how'd we get this far?

A little bit vulnerable now that you said you want me
I feel a little bit weaker now that you said you need me
I'd feel a little bit stronger if you said you loved me

Yeah, I'm living a lie with you and I'm loving every minute of it (of it)
A beautiful lie with you and I promise to keep this close

Yeah, I'm living a lie with you and I'm loving every minute of it (of it)
A beautiful lie with you and I promise to keep this close to my heart
Our secret

. . .

Do you see the reflection in my eyes?
Or do you see two black holes?

Don't want you to see me like this
Tomorrow, everything will be fine
Don't want you to kiss me like this
You're better off with him

Don't want you to see me like this
Tomorrow, everything will be fine
Don't want you to kiss me like this
You're better off with him

The distance of a kiss hurts so much

Don't want you to see me like this
Tomorrow, everything will be fine
Don't want you to kiss me like this
You're better off with him

Don't want you to see me like this
Tomorrow, everything will be fine
Don't want you to kiss me like this
You're better off with him

Don't want you to see me like this
Tomorrow, everything will be fine
Don't want you to kiss me like this
You're better off with him

Don't want you to see me like this
Tomorrow, everything will be fine
Don't want you to kiss me like this
You're better off with him

Don't shake that smile off your face
It's me who walks alone
You walk all over me like pavement
But still, you are my home
Can't break this curse, this love
It hurts to feel this good

Don't want you to see me like this
Tomorrow, everything will be fine
Don't want you to kiss me like this
You're better off with him

Don't want you to see me like this
Tomorrow, everything will be fine
Don't want you to kiss me like this
You're better off with him

Don't want you to see me like this
Tomorrow, everything will be fine
Don't want you to kiss me like this
You're better off with him

Don't want you to see me like this
Tomorrow, everything will be fine
Don't want you to kiss me like this
You're better off with him

Don't want you to see me like this
Tomorrow, everything will be fine
Don't want you to kiss me like this
You're better off with him

Don't want you to see me like this
Tomorrow, everything will be fine
Don't want you to kiss me like this
You're better off with him

Don't want you to see me like this
Tomorrow, everything will be fine
Don't want you to kiss me like this
You're better off with him

Don't want you to see me like this
Tomorrow, everything will be fine
Don't want you to kiss me like this
You're better off with him

She puts on her coat, stares at me a little longer
And she shared this charade of insecurity but I forgot to bring my own banner
She turns out the light but it's still bright
We can hide each other until tomorrow
She slides across the table and we brush in harder

And my smile, it's yours
My bedroom friends are wasted, wasted
Her smile is mine
I feel like I'm a ghost

Stay for a while, I like you style
My eyes are heavy, I'm falling asleep
It's like a classroom where we can't recall the rules as soon as the teacher leaves
A cluster of eyelash wrinkles
A glass of wine when we get back to mine
I'm drunk and I'm emotional but that is no excuse

And my smile, it's yours
My bedroom friends are wasted, wasted
Her smile is mine
I feel like I'm a ghost

I'm a ghost inside these clothes
I'm a ghost to everyone
You're a ghost inside my heart
I'm alone with everyone
You could have had it all
You should have walked away from me
I'm a ghost inside these clothes
I'm a ghost to everyone
You should have forgotten my name
And you should have never seen me again
I'm a ghost inside these clothes
I'm a ghost to everyone
I wish that I could go back
I wish I could take back everything
I'm a ghost to everyone
I'm alone with everyone

It feels so right, so right when I'm here
I need to hold on to you while my heart's spinning so
And we can float away, we can float away forever
Smile doesn't matter when you're here
We can float away, it's something I'm not proud of
You're the thing I've been looking for so long
I can pause time, get yourself away
Not like I'll end up happy anyway

We can float away, we can float away forever
Your eyes, they keep me alive
We can float away forever
I'd do anything for her
We can float away, we can float away forever
Never look back at the life we have leaven
We can float away, we can float away forever
These things just happen sometimes
These things just happen sometimes
These things just happen sometimes
