Martha Tilston
"Corporations"

Sometimes I'm invisible,
just another PIN number.
I put my card in the machine.
I pay to withdraw my soul,
spend more,
consume,
look rich.

And all the corporations
have a duty to the shareholders
to sit round a big table
and cut every slice just as fat.
they've got to make more
consume
get rich.
But if money is invisible
and it generally makes you miserable.
Do you see where I'm going with this
what are we all hunting?

And here am I
on a mountain.
I'm ever so high on a mountain.
Sometimes I just stand on a mountain
of thoughts like these.

What if all the universities
have their spinoff companies?
What if you're a bright spark?
You're working before you know you are,
head down,
research,
don't ask what for.
Sometimes we throw a party
get a little arty
roll our stockings down
dance round the kitchen, the kitchen, the kitchen.
We get high,
let go,
get loud,
And the neighbours are banging on the walls.
They want to bring back hanging, of course.
What are we all hunting here,
what are we all hunting?

And here am I in a front room
in a Galloway
He's on the TV
asking all the questions
I just love to ask.
Like what about the war,
what was that for?
Yeah, what about the war,
what was that for?

We want peace,
release,
let go...

Sometimes we throw a party.
we get a little arty.
We get our instruments out.
Play round the table, the table, the table.
It gets us high
we let go,
we get loud
And the neighbours are banging on the walls.
They want to bring back hanging, of course.
What are we all hunting,
what are we all hunting?

And here am I
on this mountain
and I'm ever so high on a mountain.
Sometimes I just sit on a mountain
of thoughts like these.

Sometimes I'm invisible,
just another PIN number.
I put my card in the machine
withdraw my soul again.
